چکیده

Spring dead spot (SDS), caused by Ophiosphaerella spp., is among the most damaging diseases to hybrid bermudagrass ( Cynodon dactylon × transvaalensis ) in areas where winter dormancy occurs. Management strategies that aid turfgrass recovery from SDS damage have not been widely studied. An experiment was conducted Blacksburg, VA, 2019 and 2020, determine influence of various cultural practices on damage. Fertility cultivation were applied late spring/early summer, which earlier than normal for bermudagrass, test their effectiveness aiding The main effects fertility arranged a 2 3 factorial design with vertical mowing, solid-tine aerification, no urea (48.8 kg⋅ha −1 N) sprayed at trial initiation weeks later or without urea. Plots assessed percent throughout study. Data analyzed as change relative initial assessment measure recovery. effect increased both 2020. mowing aerification reduced These data suggest two properly timed nitrogen fertilization applications 48.8 optimized damage, whereas summer may inhibit

Spring Dead Spot Research Targets Better Control in Bermuda

Spring dead spot (SDS) is a major disease that affects bermudagrass in the United States and worldwide. Within the United States, the disease is most prevalent in the northern range of bermudagrass adaptation. Oklahoma State University and Kansas State University researchers are focusing their efforts on gaining a better understanding of the way bermudagrass is infected, with the ultimate goal ...

FIELD SCIENCE Combating spring By Lane Tredway and Lee Butler

• I ybrid bermndagrasses are excellent performers in athletic fields because of their uniformity, traction, and tolerance to heat and wear. Unfortunately, every turfgrass species has its weaknesses. Although resistant to most disease problems, bermudagrasses are highly susceptible to the fungal disease spring dead spot. This disease annually causes widespread damage to berrnudagrass in athletic...

Defines Dead Spot More Clearly

In 1998, researchers at the University of Maryland discovered a new disease of creeping bentgrass caused by an unidentified species of Ophiosphaerella. Through morphological and molecular study, it was shown that the pathogen constituted a new species, Ophiosphaerella agrostis, and the disease was named bentgrass dead spot. Subsequently, O. agrostis was found in Texas and Florida causing dead s...
